Editorial Policy

Our commitment to evidence-based health information. Every calculator, formula, and recommendation on this site is grounded in published research and clinical standards.

Our Standards

Every calculator on HealthCalculators.xyz uses formulas derived from peer-reviewed research, clinical guidelines, or established medical standards. We do not invent formulas, extrapolate beyond what the evidence supports, or present unvalidated methods as reliable tools.

Our standards require that each calculator clearly identifies the formula or methodology it uses, cites the original source, and states its known limitations. If a formula has competing alternatives in the literature, we select the one with the strongest validation evidence and note the alternatives where relevant.

Source Requirements

We hold ourselves to specific sourcing standards. Acceptable sources for our calculators include:

  • Peer-reviewed research published in indexed journals such as PubMed, the New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM), The Lancet, and JAMA
  • Government and institutional guidelines from the FDA, WHO, CDC, NIH, and equivalent bodies
  • Established clinical formulas with widespread medical adoption, such as Mifflin-St Jeor (energy expenditure), Hodgdon-Beckett (body fat), Harris-Benedict (BMR), Cockcroft-Gault (renal function), and Friedewald (LDL estimation)
  • Clinical trial data from registered trials (e.g., SURMOUNT, STEP trials) for medication-related calculators

We do not use blog posts, social media claims, manufacturer marketing materials, or unverified user testimonials as sources for calculator formulas or health claims.

Review Process

Each calculator and guide goes through a structured review process before publication:

Accuracy Review

Content is reviewed against the cited sources to verify that formulas, thresholds, and interpretive ranges are correctly implemented.

Calculation Validation

Calculator outputs are validated against known reference values and, where possible, cross-checked with results from established clinical tools.

Source Verification

All cited studies and guidelines are confirmed to exist, to say what we claim they say, and to remain current and unretracted.

Regular Updates

Published pages are periodically reviewed and updated when new research, revised guidelines, or corrected data become available.

What We Don't Do

Transparency about our limitations is as important as our standards. We want to be clear about what this site is not:

  • We do not provide medical diagnoses. Our calculators produce estimates based on population-level data and general formulas. They cannot account for individual medical history, genetics, or concurrent conditions.
  • We do not replace professional medical advice. Calculator results are a starting point for understanding your health, not a substitute for consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.
  • We do not make claims beyond what published research supports. If the evidence is limited, uncertain, or conflicting, we say so. We do not present preliminary findings as established fact.
  • We do not accept payment for editorial content. Our calculator formulas and health information are not influenced by advertisers or sponsors.

Corrections Policy

Accuracy is our highest priority. If you find an error in any calculator, formula, citation, or health claim on this site, please email us at calculatordirectory@gmail.com. Include the page URL and a description of the issue.

We will investigate every report and, if a correction is warranted, update the affected page within 48 hours. Significant corrections will be noted on the page. We take every error report seriously — getting the math and the medicine right matters.

Update Schedule

All calculator and guide pages display a last-updated date so you can see how current the information is. We review and update calculators when:

  • New clinical guidelines are published by relevant medical bodies (FDA, WHO, CDC, etc.)
  • New peer-reviewed research supersedes or refines the formulas we use
  • Errors are identified and confirmed through our corrections process
  • User feedback highlights areas where clarity or accuracy can be improved

Our tools use population-level data and general formulas. Individual results vary based on genetics, medical history, medications, and other factors that no online calculator can fully account for.
